GS SUPERCHARGED Jockeyed by Chris Stevens
SPRING DAWN TREADER CUP Workout - Feb Workout
Wind was gently whistling away through the air and it was quite chilly outside with the morning air lifting. Chris Stevens was wide awake after three cups of coffee and a delicious breakfast the whole staff had eaten. Putting on the long sleeved jocks he grabbed his helmet and lead rope walking over to the barns to approach the bay stallion standing proudly at the window to look out at the people. With his halter already on Chris snapped the lead rope onto the bottom of the halter and opened the stall doors. "Aren't you looking nice today." Chris said pulling the bay out of the stall.
Tying the lead rope to the pole, Chris grabbed the blanket and the saddle placing it on the colts back as Ben stood still which was unusual for the horse. Perhaps Ben learned to be calm around his human friend? Replacing the halter with the proper bridle and jumped onto his back placing his feet in the saddle bearings. He then aided Ben to head towards the practice track. The bay son of Admiral's Revenge was still maturing well and still quite as moody others tried to feed him or touch him and Ben wouldn't allow it. The colt's strong shoulders stretched as he walked. Ben enjoyed running and when he knew he was working out today he pranced lightly showing off before getting into a serious notion.
The Spring Dawn Treader Cup was just around the corner and Chris entered him because he felt the stallion was ready. While he had a slow juvenile season and his three year old season was his prime year Ben had what it took with his aggression and the need to run he was a proud son of his sire. Chris was aiming for G1 and possibly more Ben stayed in the top three during both the Triple Crown and the Canadian Triple Crown and he won the Novisio derby along with races such as the Cococabana Derby and the Gem stakes. He was a prize stallion at least to Chris he was.
Ben was always a slow starter coming out of the gate but he made up for it near the end when he used both stamina and speed to run everyone down. Braud shoulders extended with each stride he took. He was taller then last year and he moved with perfection. "Good strides their Ben." Chris said as he pulled Ben back to not take off to soon. Ben became aggravated by it he snorted through his nostrils biting the bit down as he rose his head with an angry sneer. With that the stallion glided evenly over the dirt slowing the strides he placed before until he decided to take things to his level and whinnied before gaining speed by the middle of the back stretch.
Ben was not a very good listener however he was quite intelligent to his own accord and knew when to move and what to maneuver. The horse was brilliant and when he was in the pasture with the rest of the horses he always stood away from them and became the defender of the herd a leader of some sorts. He turned the last turn gaining a faster stride and a longer stride. He pushed himself farther away from the start and pushed his way to the finish where he wanted to be. Ben searched the lengths and felt good about doing it. When he passed it the stallion reared with Chris holding on for dear life. "Woah Ben you did it." Chris said trotting him off the track. Taking the saddle off he brushed the stallion down and headed him back to the stall where he knew the horse would hate it but he would be fed the proper meal to have him full and ready for the race.
